![]() There are 10 cases to solve in SH:CD, each of which tells a unique story with a mystery that has to be solved. The game has recently been picked up and reprinted by Ystari Games. The game originally came out in 1981 and won a prestigious Spiel Des Jahres award in 1985, leading to an expansion the following year and then, largely, 30 years of being forgotten. Although largely a kind of interactive fiction rather than a “board game” in the traditional sense, it deserves a place in any murder-mystery lover’s collection. Several games have tried to recreate the sense of mystery and deduction of a good thriller, but none have come so close as Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective. Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective puts you in the middle of these stories, challenging you to match wits with the master detective himself and solve crimes.Ĭasebooks form the core of each story in SH:CD Recently converted into a modern-day drama by the BBC, the stories of Holmes and Watson continue to endure and excite audiences as much as they did when they were first published. I’m a big fan of mysteries and crime fiction, with some of my favourite stories of all being the Sherlock Holmes canon penned by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle back in the 19th century. It might not sound like much but the game is an immersive ride for those who like themes and character adventures.Cobbled streets lit by gas lamps, narrow alleyways stalked by shadowy figures, rattling hansom cabs and fog blowing in the night. Future plays are benefitted by the logic of the first one and the process gets easier. The reasoning of the cases (all ten) will take an hour of time and usually, Holmes is chapping at your heels. In all honesty, you could enjoy this either alone or in a group of four or five. Solve it once, never come back again to revisit it. The Solo mode is very good actually but the problems are simple enough. But it is nothing without either a group of friends dedicated to play. ![]() Interspersing dreams and desires, death and misadventure. they set the scene with an eye for detail and a nose for Victorian London. The other thing we liked was the narratives that introduce the world. This made the game intense and play was rewarded by groups push and pull. They do not leave you an easy legacy nor a soft entry. We were taken by the layered complexity of cases. These tell you Holmes and your own progress. ![]() The contacts are sometimes a clear location or a less clear name. Remember it is a race and as you race for clues, so does Holmes. The clues are often distilled into the notes. That is to say read the first two pager, which gives you clues, contacts and case notes. At the back a solution and an envelope which details some of the key plot points which might have been missed or at the very least, revealed and not noted.įirst. Each with a detailed synopsis and highly informative location texts. Review sherlock holmes consulting detective series#This is written with a series of dots for locations, and is probably the most important document you will ever have access to! Then finally, 10 cases. Information filled and relevant to each case. A bunch of place names and location codes. ![]() Watch the explanation video amateur person! A London directory. Warning this is heavy for the amateur but not for the person who has run through it before. On opening the box you get a Rules booklet. The wedge of a box, yes I will say it, it sits awfully on a shelf but looks great with others of the series. Here however you are pitted against the great man and his even greater deductive reasoning! These have been seen as a real high point in the life of the character and the legend, which can often prove damaging to future endeavours. Then however this has been richly mined by the series SHERLOCK HOLMES CONSULTING DETECTIVE. However it was rare for his work to have the complexity of his original stories, written by Conan Doyle. Not unaccustomed to board games, he appeared in a Gibson games release and has a series of puzzle books which are all about his previous cases. Review sherlock holmes consulting detective tv#He has been in multiple films, novels, radio stories, TV plays, computer games and, well you name it he is in it. The fame, the legend, the modern, the classic, the biography and the afterlife. One of the most, neigh, the most famous is of course the Sherlock Holmes.
